Philippine Students Trade Trash For Tuition
We’ve all heard the term “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure”… But “one man’s junk is another kid’s education”? That’s what one non-profit private school in the Philippines is promoting.
WISHCRAFT, or “We Integrate Scholarship with the Collection of Recyclables and Frequently Generated Trash” is a program for prospective students who need financial assistance for tuition. In exchange for a reduced tuition, students can bring in recyclable materials, and help the environment at the same time!
Wouldn’t it be great to have programs like this available in the US? I didn’t personally go to a private high school, but reduced tuition in exchange for what I normally put out on the curb for the recycling guy sounds pretty good to me!
I did the math, and if you returned 2.4 million aluminum cans you could pay your average four year private university in cash! Swing by the aftermath of a few fraternity parties, and you’ll have a free degree in no time!
