Sunnking Is The King Of UpCycling
We practice what we preach here at Sunnking. In fact, almost everything we use here to run our electronics recycling facility has been “upcycled” or re-purposed from materials that we receive from residents and businesses who recycle with us!
All of the computer equipment that our employees use has been refurbished and reprogrammed. Our desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, copiers, audio equipment, and even the cables and wires used to hook everything up, have all found a new home at Sunnking. It may not be the latest and greatest tech on the market, but it sure works just fine, and if something breaks we have plenty of replacement parts to fix it, or we send it down the line to be processed with the rest of the eScrap that comes through.
All of our office furniture including desks, chairs, tables, filing cabinets, workstations, microwaves, and our coffee maker were saved from a landfill. My office chair might be from the 60′s, but it works just as well as Jimmy CEO’s $1000 ergonomically designed, leather chair, complete with wasteful consumer packaging.
Even the conveyor belt that the guys in the warehouse use when breaking down the electronic scrap that we process was built in-house from up-cycled materials.
There are times however, when we need to purchase something new to run our business…and when we do we always look for the greenest option whenever possible. We recently purchased the Drobo FS series, which we use to backup our server files. The Drobo FS has five 1.5 terabyte green caviar hard drives, consumes less power, and operates at a lower temperature for quieter operation.
So before you head to the closest big-box store, or fire up your web browser to purchase new technology or equipment for your business or home, look for something that has been lightly used first. They usually work just as well, cost a whole lot less, and reusing or upcycling consumes less energy so it’s better for the environment.
