Trade In Your Car = Free Public Transportation For Life?
Don't get too excited: this is just for the city of Murcia in Spain. But isn't this a great idea? If it works well, this idea will potentially spread across Europe and then hopefully to our continent! Everyone has frustratingly been stuck in rush hour traffic no matter where you're from. Some days when it is really bad, you probably could have walked to work faster. Well apparently in Murcia, people have had one too many of these daily commutes. How will this plan work? This little video will show that it is quite simple.
Although this is quite the radical plan, it will lessen the cars on the road of this city by at least one. Plus, Murcia has a brand new beautiful public transportation system, giving the residents even more motivation to turn in their car. If you have an accessible public transportation system, why do you really need a car? Of course it is more convenient at times, but you could be reducing your carbon footprint by a long shot by getting rid of that gas guzzling, C02 emitting ride.
The campaign for this project is quite clever. A big reason why driving is a drag is because you need to have a place to park it. We all know that even in our little downtown Rochester, it can be almost impossible to find a parking spot on the street. To drive this one
point home, the City of Murcia humorously placed cars in impossible parking spots, such as on top of two other cars!
Despite the quirky and eye-catching campaign, the bottom line is that this is amazing that a city is taking the extreme initiative to make their city, and consequently our world, a better and greener place. All we need is for a campaign like this to be successful for other cities to follow. There has already been a decrease in car ownership on the West Coast which could eventually evolve into something sustainable like this! And for the cities that do not have reliable public transportation (or any at all)? This could potentially get the ball rolling for them as well.
