Sunnking Hosts Electronics Recycling Event With Buffalo Sabres

BUFFALO, NY  (December 3, 2010) – Sunnking Inc., an electronics recycling company based in Brockport, NY will be hosting a residential eScrap collection event in conjunction with the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, December 6 at the HSBC Arena from 8:30am – 1:30pm.  All of the donated products will be recycled or re-sold, with 70 percent of the net proceeds to be donated back to the Buffalo Sabres Foundation. In return, each donor will receive a coupon good for 10% off merchandise in the Sabres Store. Fans who are unable to make it to the arena can visit the Blue & Gold section at www.sabres.com to register to schedule to have their equipment picked up directly from their home or business, and Sunnking will contact the donor to confirm whether or not the equipment will be accepted. 

The Sabres recycling event is a “kickoff” to promote Sunnking’s new Technology Donation Program, which they plan on expanding in the future.  The Sabres event on Monday is a one-time event and only products that are able to be resold (not recycled) will count as a donation.  All other electronic material will be recycled in an environmentally safe and friendly manner at the Sunnking facility.

This year alone, Sunnking has coordinated 5 community collection events and collected over 611,240 pounds of electronic scrap from residents in Western New York.  The facility has the ability to recycle or reuse approximately 97% of all materials that are brought through the doors of the warehouse, significantly reducing the amount of dangerous materials that pollute our environment.

Electronic waste is a growing concern because of the short lifespan of many of our “must have” gadgets and the hazardous materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, beryllium and other heavy metals that damage the environment and cause serious health problems.  According to the EPA, the US produced approximately 3.16 million tons of eScrap in 2008, with 86.7% of that ending up in landfills across the country.  As the speed of technology and innovation rapidly increases, so will the amount of electronic waste consumers create, making it increasingly critical for society to deal with this problem now while there is still hope.
