BROCKPORT, NY, April 11, 2022 - Today, regional electronics recycler Sunnking announced the recipient of its inaugural Sunnking Scholarship in Technology award.

SUNY Brockport student Ajay Bhattacharyya was selected as the first scholarship recipient and will receive a $1,000 educational expense grant.

"We're thrilled to award our inaugural scholarship to Ajay," Adam Shine, President of Sunnking. "He's a bright young man working hard to achieve his goals and this is our small way of supporting that dream."

Sunnking launched the scholarship program in 2020 to support college students and add impetus for the greater involvement of students in leadership roles in both the Computing Sciences club and the Brockport Women in Technology (BWiT) club.

The Sunnking Scholarship in Technology

The program is inspired by Sunnking's innovative practices in the electronics recycling industry over the past 22 years.

Bhattacharyya, a sophomore, was chosen as the inaugural recipient for his academic performance and forward-thinking vision for the technology sector.

"I'm really excited," said Bhattacharyya. "It means a lot to have this opportunity and creates one less thing to worry about."

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have been enrolled in full-time studies and be a major in the Department of Computing Sciences, be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Bhattacharyya is currently completing a computer science degree at SUNY Brockport. He said he viewed the Sunnking scholarship program to express her views on technology and support her studies.

Once he graduates, Bhattacharyya plans be a software designer.

The scholarship program is awarded annually. For more information, visit brockport.edu/academics/computing_sciences/awards.html.
