An electronics recycling event taking place Saturday at the Eastern Hills Mall has sold out, prompting organizers to add a second event next month at the same location.

Sunnking, the Brockport-based electronics recycler, said the event is allowed to take place even though Clarence is part of the "orange zone" imposed in Erie County this week because recycling is considered an essential business by the state.

The company typically collects about 100 tons of old TVs, computers and other electronics at its free collection events.

More than 3,000 people have preregistered for Saturday's event, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon and will feature timed appointments and no-contact device removal. It is the fourth the company has held in Western New York since the Covid-19 pandemic started.

That's the maximum capacity the event can safely handle while following social-distancing precautions, so organizers have scheduled a second recycling event at the mall for Dec. 19. For more information about what devices can be turned in or to preregister, visit sunnking.com/events.
